 his basic training is required to participate on Iowa's Disaster Behaviora
 l Health Response Team. There is no cost to the training and 6.5 CEU's wil
 l be awarded at no charge.\n\nThe Iowa Department of Human Services\, Divi
 sion of Mental Health and Disability Services has developed 6 regional tea
 ms to respond to the behavioral health needs of Iowans following a disaste
 r event (bio-terrorism\, man-made or natural disasters) or critical incide
 nt.  The teams will respond when local behavioral helath teams is to provi
 de an organized response to individuals\, family members\, survivors and d
 isaster workers affected by critical incidents or disasters.  \n\nTeams wi
 ll include individuals with experience in human services\, nursing\, first
  response (fire\, police\, paramedics etc.) mental health\, substance abus
 e\, social work\, psychiatry\, education or spirituality. Team members wil
 l receive ongoing training\, an organized system to volunteer with and par
 ticipate in state and community wide drills.

  disaster situation.\n\nAttendees will be educated on the various types of
  communication preferences and on how to determine the most appropriate ac
 commodation. Deaf and Hard of Hearing Consumers will identify tools in wor
 king with emergency responders in order to develop comprehensive disaster 
 preparedness efforts at the local and state level.
